Does your audience understand your jargon?

This is a frequent problem when presenting a technical topic.  If you are 100% sure your audience is on your wavelength when you use acronyms like “UMTS, GPRS, 3G, 4G, DECT…” go ahead and use them.  But if you are presenting to an audience you don’t know well, take some time to explain your terminology, if you want to communicate.

At a recent Rotary evening, a speaking talking about cellular networks used a lot of jargon, and people did not understand half of what he was saying.  Also, nobody dared to interrupt him and ask for explanations.

Look carefully at all the acronyms and jargon in your presentation and ask yourself if the audience understands them.
